Australia now eyes a whitewash in the three-match ODI series against India, after having sealed the series on the back of a remarkable performance in the second ODI, winning by 122 runs over the visitors, defending a total of 372. Meanwhile, India will look to end the series on a high, having lost two consecutive matches. The final ODI will be played on 11th December, 9:50 am (IST), at the WACA stadium in Perth.
In the 2nd ODI, the hosts elected to bat first at the Allan Border field in Brisbane. The opening duo of Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll got off to a flying start with a 130-run stand for the first wicket before Saima Thakor broke the partnership, dismissing Litchfield for 60. Ellyse Perry walked in to bat and capitalized on the strong foundation laid by the Australian openers.
During the middle overs, the duo of Georgia Voll and Perry took on the Indian bowlers as Australia reached the 200-run mark in 30 overs. Playing only her second international, Georgia Voll got to her century off 84 balls before Saima Thakor once again provided the breakthrough, this time dismissing Voll. Later on, Perry scored her century, well supported by Beth Mooney’s 56. Perry was Australia’s top scorer with 105 runs as Australia went on to post 371 runs at the end of innings.
India had a monumental task at hand to chase a total of 372 against a ruthless Australian bowling line-up. India had shuffled their batting line up with Richa Ghosh opening the batting alongside Smriti Mandhana. Kim Garth harmed the opening blow as Mandhana was dismissed for 9, her second single-digit score in the series. India lost their second wicket just after the powerplay ended with Harleen Deol being Sutherland’s first victim with India two down for 45.
However, Richa Ghosh and Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur were involved in a 66-run stand for the third wicket before Alana King ended Richa Ghosh’s (72-ball 54) stay at the crease. Later on, Australian bowlers struck wickets in regular intervals as India was splattered for 249 in 44.5 overs. Annabel Sutherland finished with figures of 4/39 in 8.5 overs as Australia’s top bowler.
