Super League Round III – All-round performance hands Bengal a comprehensive victory over Uttar Pradesh

An all-round performance by Bengal ensured that they sail over Uttar Pradesh in the Round III of Super League on Sunday. On winning the toss, Bengal decided to bat first at Devineni Venkata Ramana Praneetha Ground in Mulapadu. They set a target of 130 runs for Uttar Pradesh courtesy the combined efforts of their batters.

After opener Gayatri Mal was bowled by Anjali Singh while she was on 2(6), it was Mita Paul and Rumeli Dhar who batted sensibly. Paul high scored with her 30 which came in as many balls while Dhar had to be mankaded on 27. Mandira Mahapatra made 15 runs before she fell to Anjali Singh who bagged her second wicket of the match. Richa Ghosh and captain Prativa Rana both made 24 runs, the latter remaining not out to take the team’s total to 129/5.

It was a one-player show for Uttar Pradesh as the batting revolved around opener Muskan Malik. Malik made 44 runs in 37 balls and had a brief partnership with Anita Lodhi who contributed 17 runs to the team’s score. But none of the other batters could score more than 5 as Bengal’s bowlers tore through their line-up. Shrayosi Aich had a 3-wicket haul to her name as Gouher Sultana bagged two. Uttar Pradesh could only make 98 runs losing 9 wickets, handing a 31-run victory to Bengal.

Bengal innings: 129/5 in 20 overs

Uttar Pradesh: 98/9 in 20 overs

Result: Bengal won by 31 runs
