Nat Sciver-Brunt Eyes Women’s T20 World Cup Glory After England Reach Final

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has already turned her attention to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final after leading her team to a convincing semi-final win over South Africa at The Oval, London, on Thursday, July 2.

Sciver-Brunt made a brilliant return from injury by scoring 75 runs from 47 balls and winning the Aramco Player of the Match award. Her excellent innings helped England stay unbeaten in the tournament and book their place in Sunday’s final against six-time champions Australia at Lord’s, London, on Sunday, July 5.

The England captain had missed the team’s last three group-stage matches because of a calf injury she suffered during the match against Ireland. After working hard on her recovery, she returned for the semi-final and immediately showed why she is one of the world’s best all-rounders.

England were in trouble after losing three early wickets against South Africa’s strong pace attack. However, Sciver-Brunt and former captain Heather Knight steadied the innings with a brilliant 133-run partnership. The experienced pair took control of the match and guided England to a strong total of 169/5 in their 20 overs.

England’s bowlers then backed up the batting effort with another excellent display. They kept taking wickets at regular intervals and never allowed South Africa to build any momentum during the chase. The hosts eventually sealed a comfortable 40-run victory to reach the World Cup final.

The win also gives England the chance to end a 17-year wait for the Women’s T20 World Cup title. Their only triumph came in 2009, and they now have the opportunity to lift the trophy once again in front of their home supporters.

After the match, Sciver-Brunt admitted that reaching the final of a home World Cup had always been one of the team’s biggest dreams.

“I guess when you see a home World Cup in the diary, you always sort of imagine yourself there at the final and, with a chance to lift the trophy,” Sciver-Brunt said after the 40-run win. “So yeah, I guess that drive has always been there. It’s obviously a great common goal to have as a team, to be able to try and reach a final of a home edition of a World Cup.”

Sciver-Brunt also said the team has been preparing for this moment for many months. She believes all the work done before the tournament has helped England perform well when it matters most.

“I guess it’s what we’ve been preparing for, and not only during this competition but in the months before that, throughout the sort of winter camps that we’ve had and everything to be able to perform on the bigger stage,” she said.

“I suppose we’ve set ourselves up with an amazing opportunity to be in a home World Cup final and you don’t get that many times in your career. I think we’ve got what it takes.”

England now face their biggest challenge of the tournament against an Australian side that has won all six of its matches and is aiming for a record-extending seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Australia played their semi-final two days earlier and will have extra time to recover before the final. However, Sciver-Brunt is not worried about that. She believes England will recover well and hopes the home crowd at Lord’s will give her team an extra lift.

“As a group we take our recovery seriously and we’ll be doing everything that we can to, be fresh, as fresh as we can for that match. We can’t really help the scheduling of who plays in what semi-final, but the home crowd will certainly be there at Lord’s, and I think that will hopefully give us some home advantage.”

With their captain back in top form, confidence high, and the support of a packed home crowd behind them, England will now hope to finish their unbeaten World Cup campaign by lifting the trophy at Lord’s on Sunday.
