Opting to bat first, Surrey Women’s innings unfolded with early intent but not without hiccups. The opening stand between Sophia Dunkley (31 off 18) and Paige Scholfield (19 off 19) provided a brisk start, stitching together 44 runs in just 5.4 overs before Scholfield fell to Mary Taylor. Dunkley followed shortly after at 54/2 in 6.4 overs, caught off Taylor as Warwickshire tried to claw back into the contest. The early breakthroughs brought Alice Capsey (9) and Alice Davidson-Richards (57 off 75) together, but Capsey couldn’t convert her start, departing at 72/3 in 11.4 overs.

The innings found stability through a crucial middle-order rebuild. Davidson-Richards and skipper Kira Chathli (5) added a brief stand before Chathli fell at 95/4. What followed was the defining phase of the innings, a remarkable partnership between Danni Wyatt-Hodge (124 off 80) and Alice Davidson-Richards, which took Surrey past the 200-run mark. Their 118-run stand for the fifth wicket (from 95/4 to 213/5) shifted momentum decisively. Wyatt-Hodge’s innings, laced with 10 fours and 8 sixes, came at a blistering strike rate of 155.00, dismantling the Warwickshire attack.

After Davidson-Richards’ dismissal at 213/5, Jemima Spence (79 off 48) carried forward the momentum alongside Wyatt-Hodge, adding another crucial 86-run stand for the sixth wicket (299/6). Spence’s aggressive knock ensured Surrey never slowed down. Late contributions from Alice Monaghan (23), Maitlan Brown (19 off 10), and Tilly Corteen-Coleman (1) propelled Surrey to a massive 389/9 in 50 overs, at a run rate of 7.78.

For Warwickshire, Mary Taylor (3/78) and Amu Surenkumar (2/53) were the standout bowlers, picking key wickets, while Issy Wong (2/64) chipped in with important breakthroughs. Em Arlott and Hannah Baker picked up a wicket each, but the bowling unit struggled to contain Surrey’s relentless scoring.

Chasing a daunting target of 390, Warwickshire Women started cautiously but lost Davina Perrin (8) early at 22/1. A steady partnership between Amu Surenkumar (59 off 63) and Katie George (41 off 35) brought some stability, taking the score to 101/2. However, quick wickets followed as George and Charis Pavely (1) fell in succession, leaving Warwickshire at 110/3 and Chloe Brewer fell for a 4-ball duck in the same over, collapsing to 110/4.

The middle phase saw a fighting response led by Em Arlott (90 off 74) and Natasha Wraith (22), who added valuable runs to keep the chase alive. Their partnerships, including a 57-run stand between Wraith and Arlott (172/6), helped rebuild after early setbacks. Arlott continued her counterattack with authority, finding support from Issy Wong (45 off 47) in a crucial 55-run stand (287/8), keeping hopes flickering.

Late cameos from Mary Taylor (30 off 20) and captain Georgia Davis (24* off 15) pushed Warwickshire closer, but the required rate proved too steep. Despite reaching 337/9 in 50 overs, they fell short by 52 runs in what was a spirited chase.

Surrey’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Tilly Corteen-Coleman (3/43), who struck at key intervals, while Maitlan Brown (2/61) provided crucial breakthroughs. Alice Davidson-Richards (1/67) also contributed, and though Alice Capsey (1/66) and others were slightly expensive, they managed to apply pressure when needed.
