Opting to bat first, Somerset’s innings did not begin with complete fluency, as early wickets prevented them from immediately seizing control. Rebecca Odgers fell for 10 (15), caught by Corteen-Coleman off Brown, while Niamh Holland’s brisk 14 off 10 balls kept the scoreboard ticking before she too departed at 24/1 and then 27/2 in quick succession. However, the innings took a decisive turn through a crucial partnership between Heather Knight and Sophie Luff.

The pair steadied the innings and gradually shifted gears, stitching together a commanding stand that laid the foundation for a big total. Knight was the standout performer, anchoring the innings beautifully with a superb 103 off 107 deliveries, striking 9 boundaries. Luff complemented her well with a fluent 57 from 63 balls, ensuring Somerset maintained momentum through the middle overs. Their partnership carried Somerset past the 150-mark before Luff fell at 167/3 in the 28.4 overs.

Even after the set batters departed, Somerset did not lose intensity. Dani Gibson provided a late surge with a blistering 77 off just 37 balls, smashing 11 fours and 2 sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 208.10. Her aggressive knock, alongside Charlie Dean’s handy 25 (23), added vital runs in the latter stages. Contributions from Jess Hazell (18*), and lower-order batters ensured Somerset posted a formidable 337/9 in their 50 overs. Among Surrey’s bowlers, Maitlan Brown (4 wickets) and Danielle Gregory (3 wickets) were the most effective, while Alice Capsey and others chipped in with crucial breakthroughs, though they struggled to contain the scoring rate.

Chasing a daunting target of 338, Surrey Women faced an early setback as Bryony Smith was dismissed for a duck by Alex Griffiths in just the third ball of the innings. Paige Scholfield (20 off 15) and Alice Capsey attempted to rebuild, adding a brief partnership, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Capsey stood tall amid the collapse, crafting a well-made 59 off 58 balls, including 9 boundaries, keeping Surrey in the hunt momentarily.

Alice Davidson-Richards (48 off 37) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (38 off 33) provided some resistance with a middle-order partnership, taking Surrey past the 100-run mark. However, the mounting required run rate and disciplined Somerset bowling attack proved too much. Wickets continued to tumble, Kira Chathli (10), Kalea Moore (6), and others failed to convert starts, leaving Surrey struggling at 159/5 and eventually slipping further.

Somerset’s bowlers were clinical throughout the chase. Charlie Dean was exceptional, claiming 3 wickets for just 22 runs in her 7.2 overs, maintaining tight control. Chloe Skelton and Lola Harris also picked up 2 wickets each, while Alex Griffiths and Niamh Holland contributed with a wicket apiece. Their combined effort ensured Surrey were bowled out for 201 in 33.2 overs, falling well short by 136 runs.
