Opting to bat first, Lancashire did not begin explosively but laid a solid platform through a composed opening stand. Eve Jones anchored the innings with remarkable composure, crafting a fluent 82 off 106 balls, ensuring stability early on. Despite Emma Lamb’s relatively brief stay of 6 from 10 deliveries, Jones kept the scoreboard ticking, rotating strike effectively and punishing loose deliveries. The real momentum shift came with the arrival of Gaby Lewis, who turned the game decisively in Lancashire’s favour.

Lewis unleashed an exceptional innings of 131 off 116 balls, peppered with 16 boundaries, forming the backbone of Lancashire’s innings. Her partnership with Jones proved crucial, as the duo built a strong second-wicket stand that laid the foundation for a big total. Even after Jones departed at 211/2, Lewis continued to dominate, adding valuable runs alongside Seren Smale, who remained unbeaten on 31 from 35 balls. Contributions from Eleanor Threlkeld (15), Ailsa Lister (5), and late cameos ensured Lancashire maintained momentum through the middle and death overs. Despite a few quick wickets towards the end, Lancashire posted an imposing 303/8 in their allotted 48 overs, boosted further by 29 extras.

Durham’s bowling effort had its moments but lacked sustained pressure. Sophia Turner and Katherine Fraser were the standout performers, each picking up three wickets. Fraser, in particular, was economical, conceding just 32 runs in her 7 overs. Phoebe Turner and Mady Villiers chipped in with a wicket apiece, but the bowlers struggled to contain Lewis’ aggressive stroke play, which proved decisive.

Chasing a daunting target of 304, Durham never quite found their footing. Early breakthroughs from Tara Norris and Sophie Ecclestone rocked the top order, reducing Durham to 20/1 and then 49/2. Hollie Armitage tried to stabilise the innings with a fighting 23, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Emily Windsor emerged as the lone warrior with a resilient 46 off 61 balls, while Bess Heath added a useful 28. However, the lack of substantial partnerships meant Durham couldn’t build any meaningful momentum.

Lancashire’s bowling attack was clinical and well-coordinated. Emma Lamb was particularly impressive, claiming 4 wickets for 29 runs in her 8 overs, dismantling the middle order. Sophie Ecclestone delivered a tight spell, picking up 2 wickets for just 10 runs in 8 overs, applying immense pressure. Tara Norris and Grace Potts chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring there was no respite for the Durham batters.

From 20/1 to eventually being bowled out for 154 in 40 overs, Durham’s innings never recovered from the early setbacks. This comprehensive victory highlights Lancashire Women’s strength in both batting and bowling departments. With standout performances from Gaby Lewis and Emma Lamb, they have set a strong tone early in the tournament.
