After 9 successful editions of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the men’s tournament, it now finally is time for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (W-CPL) that’ll feature three teams; Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders. The women’s tournament is scheduled to run from the 1st to the 5th of September which sees it played alongside the 10th edition of the men’s event.
In the lead-up to the tournament, players are currently featuring in the ongoing and inaugural edition of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) organized, The 6ixty which is a newly launched T10 (10-over) tournament. The tournament ends on the 28th of August and players then will immediately gare up for additional 10 overs of cricket in each innings.
Format of Women’s CPL 2022
The three teams are set to play each other once, so it’ll be a minimum of two games for teams to make an impact eyeing the silverware. Matches will be played in the regular, Twenty20 (T20) format and the two top teams from the group stage will advance to the final. The league stage games will see a couple of points for a win, a point for a tie and in case a game is abandoned or a result wasn’t achieved teams will be awarded a point each.
Overseas Players in Women’s CPL 2022
The W-CPL in its upcoming inaugural edition has made 9 overseas signings, three in each team. Sri Lankan skipper, Chamari Athapaththu is linked with the Guyana Amazon Warriors and is joined there by Isani Vaghela (United States of America) and Ayabonga Khaka (South Africa).
The Trinbago Knight Riders feature Hayley Jensen (New Zealand), Sune Luus (South Africa) and Geetika Kodali (United States of America) while the Barbados Royals have welcomed Fatima Sana (Pakistan), Chloe Tryon (South Africa) and Snigdha Paul (United States of America).
