Oman Women produced a composed performance to defeat China Women by 16 runs in their ACC Women’s Premier Cup 2026 Group B clash in Bangi, successfully defending a modest total of 105. A combination of disciplined bowling, sharp fielding and timely contributions with the bat proved enough as China were dismissed for 89 in 18.4 overs after choosing to field first at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval.

The contest was also notable for an extraordinary number of run-outs, with seven wickets falling in that manner across the two innings — three from Oman’s innings and four from China’s chase, highlighting the intensity and pressure created by both sides in the field.
Oman’s innings never gained complete momentum, but contributions throughout the order helped them reach a competitive total on a surface where stroke-making proved difficult. The innings began poorly when Jayadhanyha Gunasekar was bowled by Ma Ruike for 2(4) in the opening over, but Nitya Joshi briefly counterattacked with 15(10), striking two boundaries before becoming the first of several run-out victims. Fiza Javed added 12(20) and captain Priyanka Mendonca contributed 16(20), yet neither was able to convert their starts as China’s bowlers kept the scoring under control. At 58/5 in the 12th over, Oman were in danger of being restricted below 100.
Amanda Dcosta then played the most important innings of the match. Her 27(27), featuring three fours, provided stability through the latter half of the innings. She added useful runs alongside Sameera Khan, who remained unbeaten on 14, helping Oman cross the three-figure mark.
China’s bowlers shared the workload effectively. Ma Ruike and Zhao Yihan were the standouts, both returning figures of 2/16 from four overs. Ma removed Gunasekar and Dcosta, while Zhao dismissed Javed Hina and Sushanthika Sathiya. Fiza Javed, Nitya Joshi and Priyanka Mendoca lost their wickets to run outs, two of them inflicted by Hong Yali. Mingyue Zhu and Wang Huiying were wicketless but maintained pressure through the middle overs, as Oman finished on 105/7.
China’s chase began disastrously and never truly recovered. Openers Jiaping Li and Wei Haiting both fell inside four overs, each scoring five, as captain Mendonca struck twice with the new ball to leave China reeling at 15/3. Captain Mingyue Zhu attempted to rebuild the innings with a patient 18(26), while Wang Huiying contributed 8(9) and Gong Yuting added 15(22). However, Oman’s bowlers ensured the required rate steadily climbed as boundaries became increasingly difficult to find.
The turning point came during the middle overs when China lost three wickets for just 14 runs. Sushanthika Sathiya removed Zhu for 18 and later dismissed the dangerous Ma Ruike, while Gunasekar struck twice in quick succession to break the backbone of the chase. Ma Ruike briefly threatened a late revival with a brisk 12(9), including the only six of China’s innings, but her dismissal at 83/9 effectively ended any hopes of a comeback.
Oman’s bowling effort was built on accuracy rather than individual brilliance. Mendonca finished with 2/24 from four overs, Gunasekar claimed 2/19, and Sathiya produced an economical 2/11 from three overs. Amanda Dcosta also played her part with a tidy 4-0-18-0 spell. Gunasekar and Fiza Javed were responsible for runouts of Chen Xinyu and Hong Yali, while Cai Yuzhi and Feng Qian fell victim to the quick glovework of Saldanha.
The victory gives Oman valuable momentum in Group B, while China were left to rue another batting collapse after being bowled out for just 53 by Thailand in the Asian Games Qualifier semi-finals only days earlier. This time they showed greater resistance, but Oman’s disciplined all-round display ensured the result was never seriously in doubt.
