I think this is a good sign because they don’t know us : Nigar Sultana ahead of West Indies Clash

Bangladesh made history in their previous as they defeated Pakistan by 9 runs and won their first-ever world cup match. Bangladesh who is debuting in this 2022 World Cup had lost their first 2 matches against South Africa and New Zealand. They could beat Pakistan as they had a good head-to-head record against them and had almost defeated them in the warm-up match leading up to the world cup.

They posted a good total of 234 Runs with great contributions from Fargana Hoque, Nigar Sultana, and Sharmin Akter. Rumana Ahmed and Fahima Kathun took 2 and 3 wickets respectively and played a huge role in defending the target and eventually winning the match.

Going into their 4th match against West Indies, Nigar Sultana feels that the team has to move on from the previous match victory and focus on performing in the upcoming game against West Indies.

While speaking in the pre-match press conference, Sultana shared her feeling about the first world cup win, she said,” It was a fantastic match. It was a great pleasure to get our first World Cup win. We want to forget about that because we want to move forward. But we want to take all the positives from the last match and we want to implement them in the next match as well.”

When asked about the response from the home country, Sultana said that there has been a big support for the fans back home. There have been hundreds of messages appreciating the first win and the performance of the side. She also added that there’s a momentum that’s necessary and if they get that, they’ll go a long way.

While talking about fact that they’re going to be facing West Indies for the very first time in ODIs, Sultana responded, “I think this is a good sign, I guess because they don’t know us and we don’t know them. This is going to be advantageous because they don’t know how we play actually. We are going with our all strength and we are going to plan according to that, and we would like to execute that against them.”

Bangladesh will face West Indies on Friday, March 18th at Mount Maunganui. West Indies will be coming into this match with 2 big losses against team India and Australia. They’ll be hopeful of getting back in form against the newcomers in Bangladesh.
