Players to watch out for
Tazmin Brits:
The right-handed opening batter of South Africa top scored with 32 runs off 37 balls, including four boundaries in the first ODI against the West Indies. She provided a solid start to South Africa and the Proteas will want her to come out good in the upcoming matches as well.
Shabnim Ismail:
She was the most effective bowler for South Africa in the first ODI. The right-arm seamer opened the bowling and bowled eight overs. She conceded just 24 runs and picked up one wicket. She bowled a couple of maiden overs. She will lead the bowling attack.
Deandra Dottin:
The swashbuckling right-handed opening batter of the West Indies muscled an unbeaten 150 off 158 balls, including 18 boundaries and four sixes. Out of the total 234 runs that her team scored, Dottin mustered almost 70 percent of the runs. Her knock was the standout feature of the first ODI.
Hayley Matthews:
The star all-rounder made useful contributions with both bat and ball. With the bat, the right handed middle order batter put together 51 runs off 63 balls, including four boundaries. She also picked up 2-27 with her right arm off spin in five overs that she bowled during the first ODI against South Africa.
Pitch
The first match of the series which was played at the same venue offered good batting conditions. The batters enjoyed batting on this wicket as the ball was coming nicely on to the bat. With respect to bowlers, the seamers and spinners have been almost equally effective here. The bowlers will be required to stick to the basics and exploit the conditions in hand.
