Cornona virus is now a pandemic and is a threat to everyone, whilst all the bans and precautions the sporting events have been affected worldwide. Initially, matches were played behind closed doors; without any public in the stadium to be precautious against the COVID-19, as the stadiums remain empty due to this reason, Aussie veteran Alyssa Healy recalls the women’s team playing in empty stadiums reason being the least interest in women’s cricket, which is so unfortunate.
Now just after one week of witnessing a full packed stadium in MCG during the T20 World Cup 2020 Australia, the situation is totally opposite with all the men’s matches played in closed doors, in front of zero audiences.
The first ODI between Australia and New Zealand was played behind the closed doors but now has been canceled due to precautions against coronavirus. Australian Kane Richardson suffered from a sore throat, he went for the testing, although results have come out to be negative and he has been cleared of this threat.
Every other sporting event worldwide has been either postponed or called off due to safety measures for this pandemic. The ODIs between South Africa and India will be played until further notice and has been postponed for now. The IPL which was going to be held from 29th march has been pushed to 15th April. The pandemic has put every economy and health under immense risk.
Australia’s star women’s player Alyssa Healy took a dig at men’s cricket with her tweet after the two teams, Australia and New Zealand played in Sydney with no spectators.
Alyssa Healy’s tweet on social media was a reply to an Australian journalist, who wrote, In hindsight, the fact they got 86,714 to the G on Sunday night was miraculous timing. One week later and it would have been 0.
Healy responded to the tweet saying, It’s been a week of us feeling what it’s like in the men’s shoes and them in ours!! Haha.
