Harmanpreet Kaur, Nicola Carey Power Mumbai Indians Women to 7-Wicket Win Over Gujarat Giants

Under the lights at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai Indians Women produced one of their most complete batting displays in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL), chasing down a testing score with calm assurance and four balls to spare. Gujarat Giants Women walked in with confidence after posting a competitive 192/5 in their 20 overs, but it was Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliance and Nicola Carey’s composure that took Mumbai Indians Women home for a memorable 7-wicket victory.

Gujarat Giants Women began their innings with promise, led by captain Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine. The pair launched sharply, adding 22 runs before Devine became the first wicket, skying a catch to Kamalini off Shabnim Ismail for a brisk 8 off 4 balls.

Mooney, however, remained steady, piercing the gaps for fours and rotating the strike efficiently. She stitched together a vital 42-run partnership with Kanika Ahuja, who lit up the powerplay with 35 off 18 balls, striking four boundaries and two sixes to lift Giants to 64/2 when Mooney fell for 33 off 26 balls to Amelia Kerr.

Ashleigh Gardner, stepping in at No. 4, tried to keep the tempo going but her stay was cut short by Nicola Carey, trapped lbw for a quick 20 off just 11 balls. Gujarat’s innings lost slight momentum from 97/3, but Georgia Wareham ensured they did not fall away.

Coming in with pressure rising, Wareham played a brilliant hand, anchoring the closing overs with 43 not out from 33 balls, mixing finesse with power. At the other end, Bharti Fulmali produced a blazing cameo, smashing 36* off just 15 deliveries at a 240-strike rate, including three boundaries and three sixes. The pair added 56 unbeaten runs and powered Gujarat to an impressive 192/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians’ bowlers worked hard on a flat wicket. Shabnim Ismail distinguished herself with figures of 1/25 from four overs, while Nicola Carey, Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews all chipped in with a wicket each. Amanjot Kaur, despite going wicketless, bowled key middle-overs spells under pressure.

Chasing 193, Mumbai Indians Women required both composure and power. Kamalini Gunalan and Hayley Matthews gave them a brisk start, adding 20 before Kamalini fell for 13 off 12 balls to Renuka Singh Thakur. Hayley Matthews continued confidently, striking three boundaries and a six in her 22 off 12, but her dismissal to Kashvee Gautam left Mumbai at 37/2. Amanjot Kaur then steadied the innings, pairing with Harmanpreet to build a crucial 72-run stand. While Amanjot contributed a fluent 40 from 26 balls, it was Harmanpreet who truly owned the night.

The Mumbai Indians captain delivered a masterclass, timing, placement and nerves, striking 71 not out off 43 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes. When Amanjot departed at 109/3, Nicola Carey joined her skipper and kept the chase rolling calmly. Carey hammered 38* from 23 balls at a strike rate above 165, ensuring there were no late jitters.

Mumbai reached 193/3 in 19.2 overs, sealing a confident 7-wicket triumph. Gujarat’s bowlers, Renuka Singh Thakur, Kashvee Gautam and Sophie Devine, picked a wicket each but could not stop Mumbai’s controlled march. A power-packed chase, a captain’s knock to savour, and another statement win for Mumbai Indians Women in WPL 2026.
