The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month award for August 2026, with Thailand’s Suleeporn Laomi and Nannapat Koncharoenkai joined by exciting Isle of Man batter Lucy Barnett on the shortlist.
The three players enjoyed impressive campaigns across international cricket during the month, producing performances that helped their respective teams achieve significant results. While Thailand’s duo made their mark across the white-ball formats, Barnett stood out as one of the top performers during the Women’s Continental Cup.
Suleeporn Laomi – Thailand
Thailand spinner Suleeporn Laomi earned her place among the ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees after a productive August with the ball. She played an important role in Thailand’s 3-0 ODI series victory over Papua New Guinea, while also making valuable contributions in the T20I format.
Laomi picked up three wickets during Thailand’s T20I series against Papua New Guinea, including an impressive 2/14 in the second match. The series finished level at 1-1, but the spinner continued to build momentum as Thailand moved into the ODI leg of the tour.
She claimed four wickets across the three ODIs, with her best performance coming in the series finale. Laomi returned figures of 3/27, producing a match-winning spell that helped Thailand complete a clean sweep over Papua New Guinea.
Her strong run continued at the Women’s Asia Cup, where she took a wicket against Hong Kong, China, before producing one of her most notable performances of the month against India. Laomi finished with impressive figures of 3/26, showing her ability to trouble one of the leading sides in women’s cricket.
Overall, Laomi claimed six wickets in four T20Is at an economy rate of 5.40 and an average of 13.50. In three ODIs, she took four wickets at an economy rate of 3.38 and an average of 17.75, underlining her consistency across formats.
Nannapat Koncharoenkai – Thailand
Thailand’s second nominee, Nannapat Koncharoenkai, has been shortlisted after an excellent month with the bat. The opener played a central role in Thailand’s series against Papua New Guinea and carried that form into the Women’s Asia Cup.
Koncharoenkai began the T20I series against Papua New Guinea with a 30-run innings before producing a crucial 46 in the second match. Her contributions helped Thailand level the series, and she finished as the leading run-scorer of the T20I contest.
Her performances became even more influential during the ODI series. Koncharoenkai scored a composed 54 in the opening ODI, setting the tone for what became a dominant series for Thailand. She followed that effort with scores of 35 and 32 in the next two matches as Thailand completed a 3-0 ODI series sweep.
The right-hander then carried her form into the Asia Cup. She scored 21 against Hong Kong, China, before producing an important 41 against India. Her innings stood out even more because she was the only Thailand batter to reach double figures in that contest.
Koncharoenkai finished August with 121 runs in three ODIs at an average of 40.33 and a strike rate of 80.13. In four T20Is, she accumulated 144 runs at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 86.22, making her one of Thailand’s most reliable batters during the month.
Lucy Barnett – Isle of Man
The third nominee, Lucy Barnett, made headlines with a remarkable run of performances for the Isle of Man during the Women’s Continental Cup. The young batter finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer and played a major role in helping her side reach the final.
Barnett began the campaign with an unbeaten 71 against Romania, guiding the Isle of Man to a successful chase in just 13.1 overs. Although she managed only four runs against Greece in her next outing, the batter responded in spectacular fashion against Norway.
Against Norway, Barnett produced one of the standout innings of the tournament, smashing an unbeaten 123 off just 64 balls. Her explosive century helped the Isle of Man finish top of their group and highlighted her ability to change the course of a T20I with aggressive batting.
Her contribution was not restricted to batting either. Barnett also made an impact with the ball, taking 1/8 against Greece and 1/11 against Norway, adding another dimension to her team’s campaign.
In the final against Türkiye, Barnett once again led from the front. She top-scored for the Isle of Man with a valuable 59 runs and also picked up two wickets for 22 runs. Despite her efforts, the Isle of Man finished runners-up, but Barnett’s tournament remained one of the major individual stories.
Across four T20Is, Barnett accumulated a staggering 257 runs at an average of 128.50, while striking at 178.47. She also claimed four wickets at an economy rate of 3.80 and an average of 14.25.
With Laomi’s wicket-taking spells, Koncharoenkai’s consistency with the bat and Barnett’s explosive tournament, the ICC Women’s Player of the Month August 2026 shortlist represents three very different but equally impressive performances.
