Amelia Kerr records her career-best bowling figures for Mumbai Indians in the WPL

Amelia Kerr, the ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024, brought her world-class heroics to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) stage in the 16th match of the 2025 season, playing for Mumbai Indians. She achieved a remarkable milestone, claiming the first five-wicket haul (fifer) of the season, sixth of the tournament and the first for Mumbai Indians in the brief history of the WPL.

Kerr’s exceptional bowling figures of 5/38 in 4 overs catapulted her to the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard, where she is now tied with Renuka Singh from Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Notably, prior to this match, Amelia Kerr had picked up only 5 wickets in 5 matches, but she brought her A-game to the fore, restricting UP Warriorz to 150/9 with a phenomenal spell.

Kerr’s magic began in the 10th over when she dismissed Kiran Navgire, who danced down the pitch to a nicely tossed wrong’un, slicing it in the air for Parunika Sisodia to take a fumbling catch at short third, which she eventually held on to on the second attempt.

She took two more wickets in the 14th over, dismissing Dinesh Vrinda, who mistimed a loft across the line to Shabnim Ismail at long-on. Two balls later, in the same over, Kerr struck again, trapping Chinelle Henry, who had hit a six on the previous ball, with a googly that she sliced to long-off.

Kerr’s wicket-taking spree continued in the 20th over, where she picked up two more wickets, first trapping UP skipper Deepti Sharma, who was beaten by the ball’s straightening and bounce, and was stumped by wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia, and then dismissing Sophie Ecclestone, who pulled a short ball to deep midwicket, as Kerr finished with impressive figures of 5/38.
