Opting to bowl first, the Capitals were determined to deliver with the ball. The Giants’ openers, Harleen Deol and Beth Mooney, appeared steady at the start, but the momentum shifted dramatically when Marizanne Kapp struck. In a pivotal over, Kapp had Deol nicking one outside off stump and trapped Australian youngster Phoebe Litchfield, claiming two wickets in quick succession.

Kapp’s breakthrough over ignited a resurgence for the Capitals, bringing Shikha Pandey into her groove. Pandey capitalized on the momentum, dismissing Mooney with a fine catch in the deep in her third over. She followed up with another crucial wicket, sending Kashvee Gautam back for a duck. With Kapp and Pandey dismantling Giants top order, they crumbled, finishing with just 127 runs on the board. Jess Jonassen led their chase with a solid 61, alongside Shafali Verma as they secured a clinical win and jumped to the top of the table.

The Capitals’ 2025 WPL campaign has been a mix of highs and lows. Led by Meg Lanning, they’ve shown flashes of brilliance but have struggled to maintain consistency, particularly in their batting. Despite securing key victories, including a standout performance against the Mumbai Indians, they’ve also faced unexpected defeats, such as a setback against the UP Warriorz.
