Prior to her match, Deepti sat down and discussed her strategy towards being a first-time franchise captain, “I’m really excited about the opportunity. When I found out about the captaincy, it was a great feeling. I’m feeling positive that good things will happen for UP Warriorz this year,” she said highlighting her positive approach towards her captaincy.

Furthermore, Deepti spoke about what challenges she feels she may face as a new captain, “I’ve captained my state team which has given me experience already.”

She added, “It’s a little different from being part of the team as a senior player. It might be a little challenging, but I love taking on challenges, no matter what level it might be at. So, I’m excited about the season,” highlighting how she would draw on her experience as her state team captain to ease her into captaining a franchise.

With the WPL being played at 4 venues across the country this year, this would be the first time that the UP Warriorz get to experience their home crowd, as they gear up to play their first match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, against Gujarat Giants on March 3rd.

When asked about playing in front of their home crowd Deepti said, “Playing in Lucknow, at the Ekana Stadium is a very exciting prospect for the UP Warriorz, and we are delighted that we will get a chance to play in front of our home fans.

“The cricket fans in Uttar Pradesh have always supported us in the first two seasons from their homes, but this time we are looking forward to experiencing their support as we play at the stadium in Lucknow. We can’t wait for our three upcoming games over there as a team,” highlighting the team’s excitement, especially with the precedent set by the travelling fans across the previous two seasons.

As the UP Warriorz gear up for their opening match it will be exciting to see how their captain lives up to the name after being crowned the MVP of the second season of the tournament.
