February 14, 2025, marks the start of the third Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. The following day, February 15, the inaugural champions Mumbai Indians will play two-time finalists Delhi Capitals in Vadodara, starting 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

With their constant top-tier play, the Mumbai Indians have been a dominant force in the WPL. They tied with the Delhi Capitals at 12 points at the end of the 2023 league stage, but went on to win the championship with a dominant performance final against the Capitals. They maintained their strength in 2024, finishing among the top teams with 10 points. However, they lost the Eliminator to eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, therefore their campaign ended in heartbreak. Mumbai will be keen to recover and become the first side to win the WPL twice with their seasoned lineup captained by Harmanpreet Kaur.
On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals have finished first in both the WPL seasons so far, making them one of the league’s most reliable clubs. They tied the Mumbai Indians with 12 points in 2023, but lost in the championship game. With 12 points and the top spot in the rankings, they once again dominated the league games in 2024. They were unable to turn their impressive performances into a championship victory, though, therefore their title hopes remained unfulfilled. Delhi will try to build on their consistency under Meg Lanning’s leadership and win their first WPL championship in 2025.
Head-to-Head:
In the five meetings between the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history so far, Mumbai has prevailed three times while Delhi has won two. Though the two-time runners-up, Delhi Capitals, have shown tenacity, the Mumbai Indians, the inaugural champions, have continuously dominated.
Delhi recovered with a great showing in their most recent match, scoring 192 runs and effectively defending it by restricting Mumbai to 163, winning by 29 runs. Both sides will be keen to get the advantage and solidify their place in the tournament in this year’s WPL season.
