In the 15th match of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 between the home team Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz at the Arun Jaitley stadium.
It happened to be a cracker of a contest where Alyssa Healy elected to bat 1st. The UP Warriorz got off to a decent start against Delhi Capitals, scoring 44 runs in the powerplay at the loss of 1 wicket with Alyssa Healy crossing the 8000 runs mark in the Women’s T20. With Deepti Sharma holding one end till the last over, the other batters played their part at the other end as Deepti Sharma went on to score her 2nd WPL fifty and also consecutive ones, guiding UP Warriorz to a respectable total of 138 runs at the loss of 8 wickets.
The target was always gettable for the Capitals with the amount of quality and firepower they have in the line-up. But, the Capitals got off to a slow start in the powerplay scoring only 35 runs and losing a wicket of Shafali Verma. To follow-up Meg Lanning scored her 6th WPL fifty, 4th in WPL 2024, and also became the 1st player to score 3 consecutive fifties in WPL.
After scoring her fifty, she didn’t go long and was dismissed on 60 runs to Deepti Sharma, also being Deepti’s 1st scalp of the hat-trick she took. It was one of the very few occasions where Delhi’s middle and lower-middle order was tested and they didn’t show up well to the occasion. In the 19th over which saw the UP Warriorz came back significantly in the game with Deepti taking 2 wickets of Annabel Sutherland and Arundhati Reddy on the 1st two balls and completing her hat-trick. Again, taking the wicket of Shikha Pandey on 4th ball, she added up taking 4 wickets in 5 balls.
Deepti after taking the hat trick ended up breaking many records
• 1st in WPL to score 50 runs and take a 4-fer
• 1st to take a hat-trick and score fifty in a Women’s t20 match
• Notably, in the 2nd IPL season, Rohit took 4 wickets in 5 balls (including a hat trick) under Australian Captain Adam Gilchrist and in the ongoing 02 WPL edition, Deepti took 4 wickets in 5 balls (including a Hat-trick) under Australian Captain Alyssa Healy.
• Both became the 1st Indians to take the hat trick in the 2nd season.
In the final over bowled by Grace Harris which was also her 1st in the whole match, UP Warriorz won the match by a margin of just 1 run and UP Warriorz completed a team hat-trick consisting of 2 wickets by Grace Harris of Radha Yadav and Titas Sadhu and a run-out of Jess Jonassen. With that, it was the 1st time that a team got all-out in WPL 2024.
