In the ongoing 02 edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), in match no. 11, the Gujarat Giants led by Beth Mooney won the toss and chose to field first against Delhi Capitals.

Both teams made changes to their lineups, Annabel Sutherland and Titas Sadhu were roped in by the Capitals, and Tarannum Pathan and Veda Krishnamurthy joined the Giants in the playing 11.

Delhi Capitals started steadily, but Meghna Singh’s bowling provided crucial breakthroughs. Despite notable contributions from Meg Lanning (55) Alice Capsey (27), and Annabel Sutherland (20), Delhi Capitals managed to put up 163 runs against 8 wickets. Meghna Singh’s 4-fer and Ashleigh Gardner’s crucial 2 wickets stood out in bowling for the Giants.

In response, Gujarat Giants struggled initially, losing wickets early on. Despite partnerships between Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, and Veda Krishnamurthy, they fell short, managing only 138 runs against 8 wickets. Radha Yadav and Jess Jonassen were pivotal in the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack claiming 3 wickets each. Jess Jonassen was named Player of the Match for her stellar performance, contributing with both bat and ball. Her efforts helped Delhi Capitals secure a crucial victory, pushing them to the top of the points table.

Lanning’s 9000 runs

Meg Lanning achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest player to reach 9000 T20 runs in just 289 innings. In her latest innings, she scored 55 runs off 41 deliveries, featuring six boundaries and a maximum. Fans lauded her exceptional performance, hailing her with the title of the Greatest of all time.

Radha received a purple cap and JJ’s all-round show

Radha Yadav made a significant impact by claiming 3 crucial wickets for just 20 runs, maintaining an economy rate of 5.00. As a result, she currently holds the purple cap with 7 wickets in the WPL 2024 season. Meanwhile, Jess Jonassen also played a pivotal role, taking 3 important wickets, including that of the Giant’s skipper, with an economy rate of 5.50. Additionally, she contributed a short cameo of 11 runs with a strike rate of over 150, earning her the accolade of Player of the Match. Fans showered praise on both players for their invaluable contributions to the team’s success.

Meghna Singh showcased her bowling brilliance, shining as she claimed 4 crucial wickets for the Delhi Capitals. Fans were amazed at her performance, likening her spell to magic.

Gardner’s all-round brilliance

Despite the Giants falling short of victory, her outstanding performance proved a key factor in Gujrat’s display. Fans cheered loudly for her, declaring it her day and expressing confidence that she would lead the Giants to their first victory.
