Sophie Devine made her mark early by joining the New Zealand women’s national cricket team, the white ferns at just 17 years old becoming one of the youngest members of the team.

Since then, Devine has left an indelible mark on the cricketing world with her remarkable performances and numerous records, In November 2018 she joined the Adelaide Strikers Women for the WBBL season and her skills and exceptional performances led to her appointment as the captain for New Zealand’s team in July 2020.

Devine’s prowess with the bat is evident from her impressive records she holds the record for the fastest fifty in WT20I history against India on July 11, 2015, scoring it from just 18 balls. Her ability to consistently score big runs is highlighted by her streak of six consecutive fifties in T20I is a feat unmatched by any other player male or female, moreover, she has showcased her dominance in T20Is by hitting sixes regularly with ease, and scoring centuries against various opponents in different formats. She currently ranks second among active players for the most runs scored in T20Is, with an impressive total of 3107 runs to her name in 124 innings. Her prowess isn’t limited to batting alone; she’s equally performed with the ball, having claimed 113 wickets in 110 innings with an economy rate of 6.40 and an average of 18.00. She has also claimed a memorable 4-fer against the West Indies.

In addition to her international success, Devine has also made significant contributions to franchise cricket representing teams like Birmingham Phoenix and Royal Challengers Bangalore Women where she scored 266 runs in just 8 innings averaging 33.25 at an impressive strike rate of 172.72 for the latter. Her standout performance included the highest score of the tournament, a magnificent 99 runs against the Gujrat Giants in WPL 2023.
