Six-time champions Australia have made a perfect start to their title defense in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, securing back-to-back victories. They began with a 6-wicket win over Sri Lanka and followed it up with a commanding 60-run triumph against New Zealand. In the latter match, Beth Mooney again top-scored, contributing 40 (32), with solid support from Ellyse Perry (30), Alyssa Healy (26), and Phoebe Litchfield (18), leading Australia to a total of 148/8. The bowling unit was equally impressive, with Megan Schutt (3/3) and Annabel Sutherland (3/21) each claiming three wickets, while Sophie Molineux added 2/15 to the mix. This effort resulted in New Zealand being bowled out for just 88 runs.

Pakistan started their campaign on a high note, registering a 31-run win over Sri Lanka while defending a modest total of 116. In their subsequent match against India, Nida Dar top-scored with a gritty 28 (34), supported by contributions from Muneeba Ali (17), Syeda Aroob Shah (14*), and Fatima Sana (13), bringing their total to 105/8. Although Pakistan managed to take only four wickets during the chase, with Fatima Sana picking up two, they kept the game competitive with an economical bowling display.
