In their season opener against South Africa, the West Indies struggled, losing Hayley Matthews early. Stafanie Taylor anchored the innings with a solid 41-ball 44, supported by contributions from Shemaine Campbelle (17), Zaida James (15), and Deandra Dottin (13), helping them reach a total of 118 runs. Although they didn’t take any wickets in the second innings, their economical bowling saw them take the game deep into the 18th over.
Scotland, making their T20 World Cup debut, showcased their skills by restricting Bangladesh to 119/7, courtesy of Saskia Horley’s impressive 3-wicket haul. In response, Sarah Bryce (49*) anchored the innings, but Scotland lost wickets at regular intervals on the other end, finishing at 103/7, losing by 16 runs. Despite the defeat, they showed a lot of promise that they can build on in their upcoming matches.
West Indies and Scotland have yet to meet in a T20I, but both teams share an identical record of 6 wins from 9 T20Is this year. The West Indies have lost to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and most recently, South Africa in this World Cup season opener. Meanwhile, Scotland faced defeats against Sri Lanka twice and lost to Bangladesh in this World Cup curtain raiser.
