In match no. 8 of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, both the West Indies and Scotland will be eager to recover from their season-opening defeats when they square off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 6, 2024, at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
The West Indies had a disappointing outing against South Africa, posting a mere 118 runs for the loss of six wickets. In their bowling effort, they couldn’t claim a single wicket and ended up losing by 10 wickets. On the other hand, Scotland showed promise by restricting Bangladesh to 119/7 but fell short of the target themselves, managing only 103 runs despite Sarah Bryce’s commendable unbeaten score of 49, ultimately losing by 16 runs.

Players to watch out:
Shemaine Campbelle –
The 32-year-old middle-order batter, from 104 innings, has accumulated 1,280 runs and registered the highest score of 47. Shemaine notched up a solid 41* against Sri Lanka in a recent series, and in this campaign, she departed for 20 and 9 in the warm-up games, and for 17 in the season opener. She is a reliable anchor and should be backed to build on these starts, following up with a few match-winning knocks.
Karishma Ramharack –
The 29-year-old off-spinner, from 33 T20I innings, has scalped 25 wickets, including the best of 4/15, maintaining an economy rate of 6.55. Karishma hasn’t consistently been among the wickets of late, scalping only a couple in her previous 4 T20Is, though she has largely been economical. It is hoped she steps up her efforts, producing breakthroughs, while she can also be handy with the bat on a few occasions.
Saskia Horley –
The 24-year-old all-rounder, from 14 T20Is, has added 293 runs at an average of 22.53 and a strike rate of 105.77, and registered best bowling figures of 3/13. Saskia scored a solid 48 in the first warm-up game but departed for a duck in the second, while not having a bowl. In the season opener, Saskia produced figures of 3/13 but departed cheaply for 8. Hopefully, she can capitalize on this form and deliver all-round efforts.
Katherine Fraser –
The 19-year-old off-spinner, averaging 14.11 and maintaining an economy rate of 5.17, has picked up 42 wickets from 36 T20I innings, returning best bowling figures of 4/19, while also scoring 66 runs from 16 innings. In this campaign, Katherine’s returns from the warm-up games read 1/23 and 1/5, followed by 1/23 in the season opener. Given her form and the aiding conditions in Dubai, she can be relied upon to lead the tally.
Pitch:
The center wicket at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium offers a fair contest between bat and ball. With an average score in the 120s, it promises an intriguing contest. Spinners enjoy favorable conditions on this pitch, while pacers can also make an impact.
Weather:
It will be a pleasant day for cricket in Dubai with no rain interruptions and clear skies. The temperature is forecasted to hover around 33°C, with moderate winds and 49% humidity.
