Cricket Namibia has confirmed Namibia Women’s participation in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019. The Namibian squad will join the hosts Scotland and five other teams on August 26 to compete for the two remaining spots at the T20 World Cup 2020.
The Namibian team is quite excited to represent their country in the mega event. Namibia Women’s captain Yasmeen Khan said, “We are extremely thrilled about participating in this tournament, as it will put Namibia women’s cricket on the map.”
She told that the team has been practising since May-end and have been working on the shortcomings they encountered in the previous qualifier.
According to Cricket Namibia Board member Hester Khan, the women’s team has improved a lot after the appointment of Leonard Nhamburo as the head coach.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers 2019 will be held in Scotland from 31 August to 7 September. Namibia Women team got a chance to compete in the tournament after the suspension of Zimbabwe from all ICC events last month.
