Like a nightmare, women in blue have lost the world cup final once again and this time they were outlasted in all the aspects by the title defending home team Australia.
They collapsed at just 99 runs and Australia lifted their fifth World Cup Title. Women in Blue were eventually bowled out for 99 in the 20th over. India’s dream of recreating the 1983 World cup victory was shattered by Australia’s top order especially the openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney. Unlike the tournament opener between these two where India won the contest, tournament finale proved to be of total opposite result.
Australia stood strong throughout the innings, the home team were confident under the immense pressure in a full packed MCG. This being the second final loss, the first game against England in the 2017 World cup, their emotions were loud in the field after the defeat.
Heartbreak sympathies flooded on social media post the loss. The Caribbean legend Sir Vivian Richards who had his 68th birthday the same day acknowledged Team India for their hard work, urged the girls to keep their will power intact and keep believing in themselves. Women’s Cricket has come very far and such an impactful tournament pumps up the growth of it worldwide.
The west indies legend took to Twitter and urged the Indian women team to keep their heads held high as they will have the trophy in their hands someday. He also urged them to never stop believing.
”Never be let down. You have been amazing throughout and you’ll shall have the trophy at your hand one day. Keep believing!,” Vivian Richards tweeted.
