The iconic stadium of Australia created one of the greatest sports moments when the echo sounds from grandstands could be heard throughout. Global Pop star Katy Perry performed ‘Roar’ at the pre-show of the match. She also had a post-show exclusive performance.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. In the 1st innings, the opening partnership of Alyssa Hayley and Beth Mooney made team India completely nervous. Beth Mooney was unbeaten at 78 while Alyssa Hayley made 75 runs in 39 balls. Hayley’s furious batting led her to set the record of the fastest half-century in T20 World Cup ever made in both men and women category.
Healy’s husband Mitchell Starc came early from his Australia’s tour of South Africa to watch her play. Moreover, she amazed everyone by hitting a 4 at the first ball of Deepti Sharma. Not only that, she hit three boundaries in the first over, winning the Player of the match for her excellent knock. Shafali Verma dropped a catch and Alyssa luckily survived. The missed opportunity did cost team India heavily.
The Australian squad gave India a challenging run chase as they made 184 runs for 4 wickets.
The Women in Blue could not perform up to the mark. They struggled to stop Australia with their bowling side and batted poorly as well.
Shafali Verma who scored impressively well throughout the World Cup was out at 2. All hopes were then fixed on star players Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, but that too ended in disappointment. Smriti could make only 11 runs and Jemimah was out on duck.
