Mithali Raj added another feather to her illustrious career on Saturday against Australia. The team India captain scored her 12th World Cup 50+ score as she surpassed Former England Captain Charlotte Edwards’s record of eleven 50+ scores. She now jointly shares the record with New Zealand legend, Debbie Hockley who also scored twelve 50+ scores in her WC career from 1982 to 2000.
Mithali Raj who’s had a horrible beginning to the World Cup as she had just scored 46 runs in the first 4 matches. She was under pressure to score big runs as many of her teammates had a belief in her that she was just one good inning away to get back in form and were expecting her to step up against Australia on Saturday.
She came out to bat at no.4 when team India was struggling at 28 for 2 in the 6th over. She stitched a much-needed partnership with Yastika Bhatia and helped team India get back to the match slowly without any trouble. Both Mithali and Yastika reached their 50s and Yastika was dismissed for 59 ending their 130 run partnership.

Mithali Raj ultimately got dismissed for 68 with 4 boundaries and a maximum. She scored runs through some fine late cuts and cover drives. She hit a wonderful six straight over the sightscreen and put team India in a comfortable situation.
Team India finished with 277 for 7 thanks to Harmanpreet Kaur and Pooja Vastrakar’s 65 run partnership in the last 8 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur also scored an unbeaten 57 scoring his 2nd fifty in the tournament.
In her record 6 World Cup appearances, she has scored 1253 runs in 34 innings with 10 fifties and 2 centuries. She scored her WC best of 109 against New Zealand in 2017 WC and 103* against Pakistan in 2013 WC. With a couple of more matches left in the world cup. Let’s hope Mithali is able to surpass Debbie Hockley by scoring her 13th 50+ score in her upcoming innings.
