The 8th edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Twenty20 (T20) World Cup, gets underway later today, and in the lead-up to the mega ICC event, we below bring to you the summary of the 5 highest individual knocks from across the Women’s T20 World Cup editions thus far.
Meg Lanning, 126 off 65 balls
In the 2014 Women’s T20 World Cup, match no.9 had Australia play Ireland. The former batting first had Meg Lanning notch up her career best, 65-ball 126 which included as many as 18 fours and 4 maximums at a strike rate of 193.84. Meg’s ton powered Australia to post 191(/4) on board and the side went on to comfortably defend restricting Ireland to 113/7 to register a dominating 78-run win.
Deandra Dottin, 112* off 45 balls
In the 2010 World Cup curtain raiser, Deandra Dottin launched fireworks against South Africa despite walking out to bat in a tricky situation. Dottin played her natural game and her aggressive 45-ball 112* included fewer (7) boundaries compared to maximums (9). Her knock at a strike rate of 248.8 powered West Indies to finish on 175/5, and South Africa in reply managed to close out on the total but eventually fell 17-short of the required closing out on 158/4.

Heather Knight, 108* off 66 balls
In the most recent, 2020 edition, England’s game against Thailand saw Heather Knight walk in to bat at 7/2, and alongside, Nat Sciver Brunt went on to stitch a 159* run stand. While Nat anchored the innings with her 52-ball 59*, Heather Knight teed off with her 66-ball 108* that included 13 boundaries and 4 maximums, at a strike rate of 163.63 that powered England to finish on 176(/2). Thailand in reply was restricted to 78/7 and England went on to script a 95-run win.
Harmanpreet Kaur, 103 off 51 balls
The 2018 World Cup curtain raiser saw India play New Zealand and the latter batting first had Harmanpreet Kaur walk out to bat with India 3 down for 40 inside the powerplay. While Jemimah Rodrigues anchored India’s innings, Kaur accelerated at a strike rate of 201.96, and her 51-ball 103 which included 7 boundaries and 8 maximums, powered India to close out on 194/5. New Zealand in reply too got going but the middle-order collapse helped India regain momentum to register a 34-run win restricting New Zealand to 160/9.
Lizelle Lee, 101 off 60 balls
One again from the 2020 World Cup edition, and once again it is Thailand on the receiving end, this time around against South Africa. The latter batting first had opener Lizelle Lee set the sides innings with her 60-ball 101 that included 16 boundaries and 3 maximums. A Sune Luus surge too followed and the side posted a comforting 195(/3) on board that they went on to defend in some fashion with a 113-run win having bowled Thailand out for 82.
