Top 5: Most Runs in Women’s T20 Debut Match

Playing your debut game on an international stage can be extremely terrifying. Especially in T20 where you don’t get a lot of chances to prove yourselves. Your first performance allows you to cement a place in the side and announce your arrival in the cricketing world.
The following are the players with most runs in a T20 Debut Match.

1. Karen Rolton

Australian left-handed batsman Karen Rolton is the record holder for most runs scored in a T20 debut. Karen Rolton is known for her dominance in all three formats of the game and is one of the most feared batters in women’s cricket. She achieved this feat during her remarkable debut performance against rivals England in 2005. Rolton came to the crease after opener Lisa Keightly got out on her second ball. Rolton went on to score a brilliant 96 in just 53 balls leading Australia to a 7 wicket victory.

2. Stafanie Taylor

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor is ranked second on the list for most runs scored in a T20 debut. Taylor is commonly known for leading her team to victory in the 2016 T20 WC and being the player of the tournament. Taylor made her memorable debut against Ireland in 2008, in which Taylor opened the innings and demolished the Ireland bowling scoring 90 runs in 49 balls. Taylor’s brilliant knock led her team to a 75 run victory and established Taylor as one of the emerging players from the West Indies.

3. Sterre Kalis

Dutch all-rounder Sterre Kalis made her debut against the UAE in ICC World T20 Qualifier match. Kalis opened the innings and went on to score 88 runs in 68 balls, making her the third-highest runs scorer in a T20 debut match. Even after her noteworthy performance, it wasn’t enough to lead the Netherlands to victory.

4. Jess Watkins

White Ferns Batsman Jess Watkins ranks fourth on the list for the most runs scored in a T20 debut match. Watkins made her debut against Ireland in 2018. Watkins opened the innings alongside Suzie Bates, scoring a quick-fire 77 runs in 38 balls. Suzie Bates also made a big contribution scoring 63 runs and making it the highest partnership in New Zealand T20 history with 142 runs. New Zealand managed to comfortably win the game with no loss of wickets.

5. Nisha Ali

Emirati all-rounder Nisha Ali is the fifth-highest run-scorer in the T20 debut match. Ali made her debut in the same match as Sterre Kalis made her debut in. Ali yielded 69 runs in 59 balls leading UAE to victory. Although Kalis made more runs then Ali, Ali still won the player of the match award for that game due to the UAE being victorious.
