Mignon Du Preez’s spectacular innings goes in vain as the defending champions win against Melbourne Stars by 9 wickets.
Winning the toss, Heat opted to bowl. As usual, Villani and Lee failed again as both departed early. Sad to say, the only in form batter for stars, Dupreez scored a magnificent half-century which helped Stars to cross a figure of 160. She got good support from young 18-year all-rounder Anna Sutherland. Both scored 88 and 38 respectively. With the ball for Heat, it was Kimmince who picked up a 3 fer which includes key wickets of Dupreez, Sutherland and Villani. In the end, Stars ended at 165 for 4 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Beth Mooney who is in the form of her life scored again a fantastic and unbeaten match-winning inning of 70 runs. It included 8 boundaries. She got good support from opening partner Mady Green, the kiwi scored her first half-century of the WBBL. Her inning included 56 runs off just 33 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. After a partnership of 92 runs, Green got out. The incoming batter, Jonassen too gave good support by scoring 37 not out with which Heat chased the target with ease in 19.3 overs.
