Winning the toss Renegades opted to bowl. Openers failed to provide a good start as they lost Priest in second over. In came Skipper Rachael Haynes who played a decent knock of 36 runs. She had a partnership of 47 runs with Stalenberg before she was dismissed on 21 by the in-form bowler Strano.

Though Rachael Haynes scored 36, she could not convert it into a big inning as she was dismissed by Wyatt. The in-form players Blackwell and Litchfield too got good starts but failed to score big, they ended up scoring 21 and 16 respectively. The following batters did not contribute much as the Thunders ended their inning at 132 for 8. With the ball, it was spinners again mainly Sophie Molineux and Maitlan Brown who picked 3 wickets each, which made Thunders end on a below-par score.

Chasing a total of 133, Renegades had the worst of the start as they lost the top 4 for just 25 in 6.3 overs. All credits to the Proteas fast bowler Shabnim Ismail who bowled brilliantly with the new ball picked up the key wickets of Molineux and Koski. Whereas Bates and Darlington picked the wickets of Wyatt and Beaumont respectively.

It looked like it was all over for Renegades at 25 for 4. Then came the twist in the tale as the Skipper of Renegades, Duffin who is in the form of her life played another excellent knock of 69 runs in just 56 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes. She was well supported by Courtney Webb as both had a partnership of 88 runs. From 25 for 4, this stand took to 113 for 5. The partnership came to an end with an excellent delivery from Shabnim Ismail who knocked out Webb for 32. The others who came in next did not contribute much and the lone warrior Duffin who was batting on 69 had no option except smashing the ball and lost her wicket in the end. Renegades were finally short by 3 runs as they finished on 129 for 8. Credits to the Thunder bowlers who were excellent at the beginning and death especially Farell and Ismail who took away the game from Renegades.
