Nepal’s national women’s cricket team qualified for the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from July 19 to July 28, promises to be an exhilarating event.
In a significant development for Nepal cricket, their national women’s team has clinched a spot in the upcoming 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup. This marks Nepal’s third appearance at the biennial competition, having previously participated in 2012 and 2016. This very achievement came after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the expansion of the tournament to accommodate eight teams, up from the previous six-team format seen in the 2022 edition.
Initially, Nepal faced disappointment in their bid to qualify for the Asia Cup after a narrow loss to Malaysia by 4 wickets in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup semi-final in February. However, this allocation in the expansion of slots for the tournament gives Nepal a secured entry into the tournament, as they were the semi-finalists in ACC WPC.

ACC President Jay Shah expressed the council’s dedication to advancing women’s cricket in the Asian region, emphasizing the growing popularity and significance of the game. This very decision reflects the ACC’s commitment to fostering talent in Asian cricket and building competitiveness among teams.
Drawn into Group A, Nepal will face formidable opponents in the form of record seven-time champions India, Premier Cup winners, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan. The team will kick off their campaign against Pakistan on July 19, followed by matches against the UAE on July 21 and India on July 23.
On the other side, Group B comprises the 2018 champions Bangladesh, along with Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Premier Cup semi-finalists Thailand. The stage is set for an intense competition that promises to inspire both players and fans alike, showcasing the growth of women’s cricket in the region.
