Bio:
You need a big finish with the bat? Dial Nat. You need to take wickets with the ball? Dial Nat. Nat Sciver is not only the jack of all trades but has mastered them all. Raised in Japan and the Netherlands, Nat grew up playing football and baseball. She made her debut for England in 2013 in a T20I against Pakistan and quickly established herself as a key player. In 2013, Sciver became the first English cricketer (male or female) to take a hat-trick in a T20I match, marking her early career with a historic achievement.
Sciver’s contributions to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups have been particularly notable. In the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, she played a crucial role in England’s triumph, emerging as the second-highest run-scorer for England with 369 runs, including two centuries. Her all-round performance was instrumental in England lifting the trophy. Over her career, Sciver has received numerous awards and recognitions. She was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2018, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport. Following her stellar performances in the 2017 World Cup, she was also awarded the Professional Cricketers’ Association Women’s Player of the Year. In the 2022 World Cup, she emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers with 436 runs, including a 148 not-out against Australia in the final, despite England losing the match. She played a vital role in England reaching the final.
Nat Sciver-Brunt once said her broad shoulders were her most distinctive feature. It’s both literally true—her batting packs a serious punch—and the perfect metaphor: those shoulders bear the weight of every team she represents. Perhaps her real gift is her ability to elevate her teammates by her mere presence. Sciver is known for inventing the “-Nat-meg” shot, where she hits the ball between her legs, showcasing her innovative and fearless approach to batting. She was the first batter to smash the first-ever six in the inaugural season of the Women’s BBL for the Melbourne Stars. The right-hand batter played for the Trent Rockets in the first edition of ‘The Hundred,’ scoring 220 runs and taking four wickets.
She made her Test debut in 2014 against Australia, scoring 72 runs combined in both innings, including a 49 in the first innings, which contributed to England winning the Test by 61 runs. The year 2023 was a perfect year for the English all-rounder, as she scored the most hundreds in a calendar year and was picked by the Mumbai Indians franchise in the first edition of the Women’s Premier League. She scored the most runs for the Mumbai Indians in the first edition, with 332 runs, and also took 10 wickets with the ball. Nat was named in Wisden’s five cricketers of the year in 2018. She was also part of the ICC ODI team of the year in 2022 and 2023. She was the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2023. With over 225 appearances for her national side, she has accumulated over 6,500 runs and over 170 wickets, continuing to be a linchpin for England’s women’s team.
