Megan Schutt carved out a prominent place in Australia’s bowling lineup with her impressive inswingers. She made her international debut in December 2012, and since then, has become a cornerstone of the Australian cricket team.
In domestic cricket, Schutt plays for the South Australian Scorpions in the Women’s National Cricket League, having made her debut for them in the 2009-10 season.
Across all three international formats, Schutt has taken one five-wicket haul as of 2024.
In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Schutt made her debut on December 17, 2012, against New Zealand during the Rose Bowl series at North Sydney. At the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup, she was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 15 wickets. In September 2019, Schutt made history against the West Indies by becoming the first Australian bowler to take a hat-trick in WODIs and the first female bowler to achieve two hat-tricks in international cricket. As of 2024, she has taken over 120 wickets in ODIs.
In T20 Internationals (T20Is), Schutt debuted on January 22, 2013, against New Zealand during their tour of Australia at Melbourne, where she took a wicket. In March 2018, during the 2017–18 India Women’s Tri-Nation Series, Schutt became the first bowler for Australia to take a hat-trick in WT20Is. At the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, she was the leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets, including a remarkable performance in the final against India, where she took 4/18, significantly contributing to Australia’s victory. As of 2024, she has taken over 130 wickets in T20Is.
In Tests, Schutt made her debut on August 11, 2013, against England during Australia’s tour of England at Wormsley. As of 2024, she has taken over eight wickets in Tests.
In franchise cricket, Schutt plays for the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), London Spirit in The Hundred and featured in the inaugural season of Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
During the 2022–23 season of WBBL, where the Strikers emerged as champions, Schutt was the leading wicket-taker with 27 wickets. As of 2024, she has the best bowling figures in an innings, with 6/19 against the Sydney Thunder achieved on November 20, 2022.
