Jess McFadyen is a wicketkeeper-batter who received her first New Zealand central contract for the 2021/22 season but didn’t get any game time as she was the backup to first-choice wicketkeeper Katey Martin. She was contracted again for 2022/23 and was part of the White Ferns squad that won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, but again, did not play a game. She made her T20 International debut against Bangladesh in November 2023, but due to illness, she did not get the chance to play early. However, a week later, she finally made her debut for the White Ferns at her home ground, the Basin Reserve, in the first ODI against Bangladesh.
McFadyen is also a good hockey player who played for the Black Sticks hockey team. She spent four years in North Carolina on a hockey scholarship, becoming a key scorer and defender for the team. McFadyen also works as a Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Capital Football.
In 2015, McFadyen switched back to cricket. She started playing for the Wellington Blaze team, winning the 2019/20 and 2021/22 Super Smash and the 2022/23 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
