Lauren Down is a right-handed batter who relies on timing and technique to score runs all over the field, but she also possesses explosive power as a batter, as evident from her innings of 90 runs off 86 balls in the 2019-20 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield Final. Apart from batting, Down is regarded as one of the best fielders in the country and can usually be found fielding in the cover and point region.
Down has scored an impressive 107 runs against a Governor-General’s XI in Sydney, showcasing her exceptional ability as an opening batter, and after that, she also played a beautiful knock of a hundred runs against Indian in preparation for the 2023 World Cup in New Zealand.
A thumb injury caused Down to miss the home World Cup and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. But she made a comeback to the squad for the West Indies tour in September 2022 and was included in the New Zealand squad for the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Lauren Down does not have extensive experience playing in different domestic leagues; having only represented the Auckland Women in New Zealand’s domestic league and Oxfordshire Women teams in English County League, while in the WBBL, she has played for the Perth Scorchers Women.
