Brief History of Botswana Women’s National Cricket Team
The Botswana women’s national cricket team represents Botswana in international women’s cricket. In April 2018, the ICC granted Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members, enabling Botswana’s games to hold WT20I status. Botswana’s debut WT20I match took place against Lesotho at Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1, Gaborone, on 20 August 2018.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier:
The Botswana women’s team made their debut in the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. Hosting the event for the first time, they were placed in Group A. Winning a couple of games, they were unable to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier:
In December 2023, Botswana participated in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier. They competed in the Division Two Qualifier, facing teams like Kenya, Sierra Leone, and Malawi. Placed in Group A, Botswana won two of their group-stage matches, which allowed them to advance to the playoffs. However, in the final, they lost to Kenya, narrowly missing out on the title.
Kwibuka Women’s Twenty20 Tournament:
Botswana has participated in the Kwibuka Women’s Twenty20 Tournament in the 2021, 2022, 2023 editions, finishing fifth, eighth, and fifth respectively.
