Bio:
Afy Fletcher, a right-arm leg-spinner from Grenada, is a true gem in West Indies women’s cricket. Unlike many in the Caribbean, Afy brings the rare and valuable skill of leg-spin bowling to the team.
Afy’s international debut in 2008 was a remarkable one. At just 21 years old, she took the field for her first ODI match against Ireland. Not only did she make her mark, but she shattered a record. Her impressive 4/22 in nine overs became the best bowling figures by a West Indian woman debuting in an ODI match. This was just the beginning for Afy. Her WT20I debut followed shortly after, against the Netherlands.
Even when the wickets column remains quiet, her economy rate is known to be among the world’s best. Afy recently completed her Level I coaching certification, showcasing her foresight, and planning for a future beyond playing cricket.
Afy’s cricketing journey’s significant highlight – being part of the West Indies team that clinched the prestigious 2016 World Twenty20 title in India, their first-ever world championship. Her contribution of seven wickets throughout the tournament, including crucial spells against England and India, was active in their historic win.
