Bio:

Hailing from Bangalore, the story of a cricket-loving girl turned emerging spin-bowling all-rounder in Indian women’s cricket is none other than Shreyanka Patil. Shreyanka has carved out a niche for herself as a talented all-rounder, particularly with her off-spin bowling.

Her cricket journey began with a tennis ball, in the narrow lanes of her hometown. Her passion and persistence paid off when she was selected for her state team (Karnataka). The turning point in Shreyanka Patil’s career was during the 2021-22 women’s senior one-day league, where she emerged as one of the top wicket-takers. This outstanding performance resulted in widespread recognition. Interestingly, Shreyanka Patil was anxious and nervous when she was picked in the first edition of WPL, which also included four days of sleepless nights before being selected by the Bangalore franchise. She was in tears after hearing that she was being picked. She had a memorable outing in the first edition of WPL, picking six wickets. In addition to her cricketing talents, she has also played in a men’s corporate match between Indigo Pilots and Rangeela Royals.

One of Indian cricket’s up-and-coming players, Shreyanka Patil’s all-round abilities make her a valuable asset. She received her maiden call-up in a T20 series against England. It was a mixed outing for the off-break bowler as she did pick two wickets but conceded 44 runs. Three weeks later, the Bengaluru girl made her ODI debut against Australia.

The second edition of WPL was an even better season for Shreyanka. She was the leading wicket-taker for RCB, picking 19 wickets including four in the final against Delhi Capitals, leading RCB to their title. She also played a pivotal role in securing RCB’s win over Mumbai Indians in the eliminator. The young spinner has also been part of the WCPL for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, being the first Indian to feature in the WCPL.

Although Shreyanka has played only over 10 matches, picking more than 16 wickets across formats, the Bengaluru spinner is setting the bar high.
