Bio:
Hailing from the city of dreams, Jemimah Rodrigues is probably one of the finest next-generation players for the Indian women’s team. At the age of four, she started playing season cricket. She played both hockey and cricket in her early years and was selected for the Maharashtra under-17 and under-19 hockey teams. Her cricket U-19 debut was at 12 during the 2012–13 cricket season. She was only 13 when she got picked for the under-19 state cricket team.
In the 2016-17 domestic season, she scored 665 runs over ten innings. In the following season, she bettered her performance by scoring 1,013 runs, which included five centuries and a double-ton. After an impressive show in domestic cricket, the blue jersey came calling.
She made her international debut in 2018 across ODIs and T20Is in the series against South Africa and has steadily become one of the most reliable middle-order batters. She scored a crucial 37 partnering with Mithali Raj on her T20I debut. She has played in The Hundred for Northern Superchargers and has also represented both Melbourne franchises in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). In 2018, she was named the best domestic junior women’s cricketer by the BCCI. In October 2018, at the age of just 18, she was named in India’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup held in the West Indies. In her first match, Jemimah scored 59 runs against New Zealand. In the run to the final, she scored 93 runs. However, she was unable to emulate her performances in the final, as India fell to Australia. After the conclusion of the tournament, she was named the standout player of the team by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Although Jemimah was in India’s Test squad for their one-off test against England, she made her test debut in 2023 against England on home soil. The right-hand batter scored 68 and 27 on her test debut. As of 2024, the middle-order batter has over 2,500 runs in more than 120 matches.
Jemimah Rodrigues is more than a cricketer who brings joy and determination to the field. While Jemimah’s 50-over game continues to evolve, her potential as a polished cricketer is undeniable.
