Bio:
Nahida Akter, as of 2024, serves as the vice-captain of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team. Her journey in international cricket began in September 2015, and since then, she has established herself as a key player.
In the domestic circuit, Nahida currently plays for Northern Zone, a position she has held since the 2021/22 season. Previously, she showcased her skills for the Barisal Division in 2017.
Nahida’s talent shines through in both formats of the game. She has taken one four-wicket haul and three five-wicket hauls, making significant contributions to her team’s success.
Her T20 International debut came on September 30, 2015, against Pakistan during the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan at Karachi. In this impressive debut, she picked up two wickets, announcing her arrival on the world stage. Nahida continued to excel, being part of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2019 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier in Scotland, where she emerged as the leading wicket-taker for her team with ten dismissals in five matches.
In the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Qualifier tournament in Malaysia, Nahida delivered an outstanding performance by taking her first five-wicket haul in WT20Is, with five wickets for twelve runs against Kenya on January 19, 2022. This feat earned her the Player of the Match award. As of 2024, she has picked up over 90 wickets in T20Is.
In One Day Internationals, Nahida made her debut on October 04, 2015, against Pakistan during the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan at Karachi, where she took one wicket. Her first five-wicket haul in WODIs came against Zimbabwe during the 3rd ODI of the Bangladesh in Zimbabwe ODI Series on November 15, 2021, at Bulawayo, with figures of 5/21. This stellar performance earned her the Player of the Match award. As of 2024, Nahida has accumulated over 50 wickets in ODIs.
