Surrey have signed England international Freya Kemp on a multi-year deal ahead of the 2027 season. The 21-year-old all-rounder will join the club after spending the past two seasons playing domestic cricket for Hampshire. Born in London, Kemp also represented the Southern Vipers during the regional cricket era.
Kemp has represented England 49 times, scoring 585 runs across 36 innings. She has also taken 36 wickets across both formats with her left-arm seam bowling. Her bowling average is 22.5 in WODIs and just over 20 in WT20s. In List A cricket, she has scored 1561 runs and averaged 59.60 in the 2025 Metro Bank Women’s One Day Cup.
Kemp has had a strong summer for England with both bat and ball. At the Women’s T20 World Cup, she struck at 157.89 while averaging 45. She also produced England’s best bowling figures of 4/22 against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament, showing her value in both areas.
The all-rounder also brings experience from franchise cricket. She has represented Welsh Fire and Southern Brave in The Hundred, along with Perth Scorchers in the WBBL. Her career has therefore included international cricket as well as domestic and franchise competitions, giving Surrey an experienced young player ahead of the new season.

Calvert also praised the experience Kemp has built through different competitions. “The experience she has gained across international, franchise and domestic cricket along with her character and work ethic will be a huge asset to the club both on and off the pitch. We are really looking forward to welcoming her into the dressing room and seeing her out there at the Kia Oval.”
Kemp said she was excited about the move and the chance to work with Surrey’s coaching staff. “I’m really excited to join Surrey. They are a huge club and have an amazing squad. I have enjoyed chatting with Emma & Johann [Myburgh] and I’m looking forward to working with them and the rest of the coaches, continuing to develop and improve.”
She also thanked Hampshire for its support throughout her development. “I am very grateful for my time at Hampshire, who have played a key role in my development to get where I am today. I want to extend a big thank you to all the staff, players and members for their support during my time there. I will look back on my time at Hampshire with great fondness and happiness.”
The move was not an easy decision for Kemp, but the chance to play for Surrey and be closer to home was important. She is now looking forward to contributing to the club both on and off the pitch. Her switch brings her Hampshire spell to an end after two seasons and begins a new chapter.

Her record includes 49 England appearances, 585 runs and 36 wickets, while her List A performances have also been strong. With a multi-year deal in place, she will look to continue developing and make her contribution to Surrey from the 2027 season and continue building on the progress she has made across different levels of the game so far.
