Harshitha Madavi hit an unbeaten century while Sathya Sandeepani remained not out on 96 to take Sri Lanka’s total to 279. Maldives were bundled out on 30 runs in the second innings, giving Sri Lanka a magnificent victory.

Winning by a margin of 249 runs in a T20 match – have you seen this before? In a game where scoring more than 200 is no mean feat in 20 overs, Sri Lanka have managed to win over Malaysia by 249 runs.

Maldives Women won the toss and elected to field first in the 4th women’s T20 match at South Asian Games 2019. The match was held at Pokhara Rangasala in Nepal.

Sent in to bat, Sri Lanka openers showed promise as Umesha Thimashini and Janadi Anali made 18 and 32 runs respectively. Soon they fell to Shamma Ali and Latsha Haleemath of Maldives. Thereafter it was all Harshitha Madavi and Sathya Sandeepani show. Both batted beautifully, stitching a match winning partnership for their team. They each hit 3 maximums, and seemed to dominate every bowler. Captain Madavi hit a century. She hit 15 boundaries during her 47-ball 106. Her ton came at a strike rate which was above 225! Sandeepani on the opposite end was giving full support to her captain. She made 96 runs in 48 balls striking at a rate of 200. She also hit 11 fours in the process. Both of them remained not out to take Sri Lanka’s score to 279.

Chasing a humongous target, Maldives Women faltered. None of the batters could score more than Sajaa Fathimath’s 6. The top 3 batters were all dismissed on ducks. Captain Zoona Mariyam and wicketkeeper Hafsaa Abdhulla both scored 5 runs whereas Eashal Ibrahim fell to Janadi Anali on 4. Anali also completed her 3-wicket haul. Sandeepani scalped two while Tharika Sewwandi, Sachini Nisansala and Umesha Thimashini bagged one wicket apiece. Maldives were all-out in 15 overs, scoring only 30 runs. Sri Lanka won the match by a huge margin of 249 runs.
