Sheffield and Devonport continued their unbeaten run in the Cricket North West Women’s competition following the victories on Sunday. Fortunately, the game ended in a full play result game despite the occasional shower.
Judging by the weather conditions, the game was reduced by 19 overs per side, openers Georgia Anderson (31) and Krysie Jeffrey (25) helped Sheffield pick up a great start with a 55-run partnership between them.
Lead by Jeffrey (3-14), Sheffield took control and left Shakyra Oliver with too much responsibility in the end, at the Devonport Oval, the Orions defeated them by 90 runs. Half-centuries were socred by Martina Steven (50 not out) and Claire Alexander (56) guarded the side’s innings that ended at 3-140, with the pair putting on 106 for the third wicket.
Greta Edwards was the MVP of Wynyard attack, finishing with 2-14. Cherie Hawkins led the Bluebelles’ by making 20 runs and she was quite stable at the crease with enough support from the other end.
Steven and Steph Shaw took two wickets each for the home side. The early game between Latrobe and Burnie was initially played but couldn’t get completed as the game called off due to rain hit. The Demons had made a decent start, reaching 1-51 in six overs until the rain drained the game apart.
The third round of games will take place on Saturday evening, which will see the contest between Ulverstone and Burnie at UCI Oval, Sheffield v/s Devonport and Wynyard v/s Latrobe.
