Rameen Shamim, Pakistan’s right-arm off-break bowler and left-handed batter, belongs to the rare breed. Her journey is not just about wickets and appearances but about leadership, resilience, and embodying the steady core of Pakistan’s bowling unit. She has steadily grown into a dependable figure in Pakistan women’s cricket, combining her domestic experience with international grit.

She sharpened her skills in Pakistan’s competitive domestic circuit, representing Karachi, Sindh, Omar Associates, and Saif Sports Saga. Her consistency at the domestic level made her a natural choice for the national side, and in April 2019, she received her first call-up for Pakistan’s tour of South Africa.

Rameen Shamim’s International Career

Her persistence was rewarded with her ODI debut against England on 9 December 2019 in Malaysia. Beyond her role as a bowler, Rameen has showcased strong leadership qualities. In June 2021, she was entrusted with the captaincy of the Pakistan Women’s A team for their one-day matches against the West Indies.

In her ODI career so far, Rameen has bowled in 11 innings, taking 10 wickets with best figures of 3/18. While her numbers may seem modest at first glance, her value lies in the control she brings with the ball, slowing down run rates, creating pressure, and forcing batters into mistakes. She’s not just a wicket-taker but a partnership breaker, the kind of bowler captains turn to when the game drifts away.

Rameen has been part of several high-profile campaigns for Pakistan. She featured in the 2019 series against England, was named in the squad for the 2021 Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, and more recently represented Pakistan in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier at home. Each appearance has further cemented her role as a reliable option in Pakistan’s bowling resources.
