Fargana Hoque Pinky has stood out as a rare batting mainstay, a player of calmness, technique, and resilience at the crease. A right-handed top-order batter from Gaibandha, Hoque has been one of the most consistent run-scorers in the country’s history, carving out milestones that have redefined what Bangladeshi batting can achieve on the global stage.

Fargana’s cricket journey began well before women’s cricket in Bangladesh had gained recognition. She broke into the international scene in 2011, making her ODI debut against Ireland. By then, she had already been part of the Bangladesh squad that won a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, a pioneering moment for women’s cricket in the country.

Fargana Hoque Pinky International Career

For much of Bangladesh’s early years in international women’s cricket, batting was considered their weaker suit. Fargana set out to change that perception. With her compact technique and ability to build innings, she became the backbone of Bangladesh’s top order. Her biggest breakthrough came during the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup, when Bangladesh stunned India in the final to win their maiden major trophy. Fargana’s contributions at the top of the order were vital in giving Bangladesh solidity in that historic campaign.

In March 2022, during the ODI World Cup in New Zealand, she etched her name in history by becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to score 1000 runs in WODIs, reaching the landmark against powerhouse Australia. By 2025, across 73 ODI batting innings, Fargana had amassed 1881 runs, including her career-best 107 numbers that reflect both her consistency and her pioneering role as Bangladesh’s batting anchor. She was also a member of the gold-medal-winning squad at the 2019 South Asian Games, where Bangladesh edged Sri Lanka in a nail-biting final.

Her ability to anchor the innings, especially in challenging conditions against stronger opposition, has made her a vital cog in Bangladesh’s batting line-up. She brings balance to a side that often relies heavily on its bowlers, providing the much-needed assurance at the top.
