The inaugural Women’s T20 Blast kicked off on May 30, 2025, in Nottingham, Taunton and Southampton. This season in particular is notable as it’s the first-time women’s and men’s country teams are competing side by side in the tournament Blast. From securing first wins to a draw, here’s the summary from the opening day’s play of the Women’s T20 Blast.

Match 1: Hampshire Women vs Essex Women – Southampton
In the opening contest Hampshire Women secured a 25-run victory over Essex Women. Batting first Hampshire posted a competitive total of 215 with the fall of 3 wickets. Maia Bouchier hammered 92 off 53, and McCaughan 68 off 39 in a brutal batting display upfront. The top order pulverized 158 runs together as Hampshire recorded the fifth-highest T20 score in Utilita Bowl history. Esmae McGregor of Essex was capable of picking 2 wickets but conceded 42 runs. With 42 runs, anchored by Freya Kemp’s unbeaten 20 from 13 knocks and captain Georgia Adams 22 (13), Hampshire all together posted a total of 215 for Essex to chase.
Essex started on a strong note with Lauren Winfield-Hill providing 69 off 42, a smoky rapid fifty. Daisy Gibb taking the wicket of Lauren, Essex batters fell short momentarily before Hampshire’s bowling attack. Bex Tyson took 3/40 crucial wickets to dismantle the batting unit. Wickets were also shared among Freya and Ava Lee, picking up 1 each. Despite runs from Grace Scrivens (15), Cordelia Griffith (24) and Madeline Penna (38), Essex collectively folded for just 190, losing to Hampshire.
Match 2: Warwickshire Women vs The Blaze Women – Nottingham
The second contest between the Blaze and Birmingham Bears ended in a dramatic tie, showcasing a thrilling contest between two evenly matched teams. Opting to bat first, Bears posted a total of 160. The top orders fell quickly to Kirstie Gordon (2/26) and Georgia Elwiss (2/27). Despite Katie George’s steady 37 off 30 supported by Charis’s 46 off 34, the Bears were dismantled in quick successions. Grace Ballinger and Kathryn Bryce shared single wickets among themselves.
However, the match took an interesting turn in the second innings. Georgia Elwiss posted a half-century, scoring 52 off 38, alongside Kathryn Bryce, who also scored a fifty, remaining unbeaten on 60 off 53. However, with Sarah Bryce’s 27 off 18, The Blaze matched the total of 160, drawing the contest in what was a thrilling encounter. For the Bears, Issy Wong, Charis Pavely and Amu Surenkumar shared singles wickets, giving away a collective 76 extras.
Match 3: Somerset Women vs Surrey Women – Taunton
In the third contest of the Women’s T20 Blast, Surrey secured a commanding 8-wicket victory over Somerset. This win marked a strong start for Surrey in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 Blast. Opting to field first, Somerset batted and posted a total of 131 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by their top-order, Rebecca’s 27 off 20 and lower order, Alex Griffiths’s steady 36* off 37. Tilly Corteen-Coleman maintained tight lines and lengths, picking up 2 wickets and Alexa Stonehouse, Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Danielle Gregory and Phoebe Franklin shared wickets restricting Somerset to a modest total.
In response, Surrey chased down the target efficiently, reaching 135 for 2 in just 15.3 overs. Paige Scholfield, Danni Wyatt-Hodge steered Surrey to a comfortable win in their Blast opener, with each scoring half centuries, 63* off 48 and 53* off 35 respectively. Surrey women won by 8 wickets which places Surrey in a strong position early in the tournament.
