Their journey into parenthood marks a historic moment in England women’s cricket, as Natalie becomes one of the few mothers to play at the international level.

Taking to Instagram, they had earlier made a joint announcement with Nat revealing that they were expecting, with Katherine carrying the baby. The post, shared on September 20, 2024, featured a charming image of a pair of dogs and a caption expressing their joy: “We have some exciting news to share with you, Katherine is pregnant with our first child!”

Katherine, now 39, left an indelible mark on women’s cricket before retiring from the international arena last year. Having taken a record-breaking 335 wickets across formats—51 in Tests, 170 in ODIs, and 114 in T20Is—she remains England’s highest wicket-taker in women’s cricket.

In addition to her exceptional bowling prowess, she contributed with the bat as well, accumulating 184 runs in Tests, 1,090 in ODIs, and 590 in T20Is. After bidding farewell to international cricket in 2023, she later stepped away from all professional formats of the game.

Meanwhile, Natalie Sciver-Brunt continues to set new benchmarks in the cricketing world. Her international career boasts impressive figures, with 883 runs and 12 wickets in 12 Test matches, 3,811 runs and 79 wickets in 115 ODIs, and 2,789 runs and 90 wickets in 132 T20Is.

In the recently concluded 3rd edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Nat showcased her all-round brilliance, amassing 523 runs at an astonishing average of 65.37 with a blistering strike rate of 152.5. She also delivered 34 overs, claiming 12 wickets at an average of 22.5.

Her dominance in the league remains unmatched, as she is the only batter to have surpassed the 1,000-run mark, with Ellyse Perry following closely. Natalie’s contribution was also instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ victorious campaign in the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2023, where she tallied 332 runs and bagged 10 wickets.

With this exciting addition to their family, Natalie Sciver-Brunt is set to become a rare mother in the England women’s cricket setup. The last England international to play as a mother was all-rounder Arran Brindle, whose career concluded in 2014. While motherhood remains a rarity among England cricketers, it has been embraced more frequently at the international and domestic levels worldwide.

The journey of Nat and Katherine as a couple has been as inspiring as their cricketing careers. Their engagement in October 2019 marked the beginning of their life together, though their wedding, initially planned for September 2020, had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, love prevailed, and they officially tied the knot in May 2022, uniting under the shared surname “Sciver-Brunt.”

As they step into this beautiful new phase of life, the cricketing world and their legion of fans eagerly await more heartwarming moments from the power couple. Their journey from the pitch to parenthood is a testament to their unwavering bond, both on and off the field.
