A wonderful initiative was put forward by the Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision along with Apanga, Mahila-Bal Vikas Sanstha, Interact Club of DPS Lava Nagpur and coordinated by Project Director Rtn. Akanksha Agarwala, where they arranged a match for differently-abled girls in order to offer equal opportunity in sports, encouraging and adding a motive in their life to enjoy and enhance sensitivity towards them in society.
This game was played between visually impaired girls Ashadeep Blind Women’s Cricket team and regular Girls’ Cricket team of DPS in the DPS Lava cricket ground.
DPS girls won the toss and chose to bat first after winning the toss where they put up 50 runs on-board with no wickets down in the first six overs. Chasing the score Ashadeep girls initially lost a wicket in quick succession and tension was building up for the side but they made up for it with their never giving up the spirit in a nail-biting encounter, the result turned out as a tied match. Ashadeep girls were declared as winners on the basis of more boundaries in the innings.
Manisha Chandekar from Ashadeep was declared Best Batsman while Harshita from DPS Lava team was Player of the Match. A special prize was given to blind commentator Surendra for his lively commentary and Ashadeep coach Dhyaneshwar for coordination of the event. Prizes were handed over by Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision President Rtn. Sohrab Kanga and Ashadeep President Dr. Pratima Shastri. The event was attended by several RCNV members including Past Presidents Gulab Mahant & Chandru Shahani, with the family. Ashadeep members included Dr. Kulkarni, Hemali Deshpande Supriya Kekatpure, Dr. Pandhapurkar and Rekha Parkhi. The principal of DPS Lava Mrs. Sagdeo, Mrs. Vaidya and School Sports Coach Mr. Rogers along with school staff took special efforts for the successful organization.
