Stafanie Taylor made history as Revellers won the first women’s T10 match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. The T10 match which was scheduled to take place prior to the men’s Caribbean Premier League semi-finals saw some epic performances from both sides.
Teams NLCB Revellers and Courts Gladiators battled it out in the 10 over per side game. The Courts Gladiators led by Afy Fletcher, started slow but accelerated in the end, posting a daunting total of 74 at the end. After Sheneta Grimmond was out on a duck by NLCB’s Caneisha Isaac, they recovered well courtesy the 54-run second-wicket partnership between Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight. They lost 2 wickets and Matthews was their top performer who batted well and contributed 46 runs to their team’s total. She hit as many as 7 fours and one six and plundered Gladiators’ innings from 27/1 to 74/2 at the end of 10 overs.
Revellers’ Stacy-Ann King and Britney Cooper started the run-chase scoring steadily. But it was Gladiators’ captain Fletcher who trapped King lbw for 15 runs. And after that, it was Taylor’s show through and through.
Stafanie Taylor powered her side to score 78 runs in only 9.2 overs, anchoring the innings and hitting boundaries as well. She continued to light up the stadium with her shots and scored 36 runs from 17 balls. An attempt to finish the game in style rendered her out on a ball that was bowled by Matthews. Cooper then finished the game by hitting the winning runs. She smashed one over the bowler’s head for four to make her side win the game.
For her match-winning performance, Captain Stafanie Taylor was awarded the Player of the Match award.
Both teams will again meet on the afternoon before the final of the Caribbean Premier League for another T10 match on Saturday.
